Providing Landowners with the Right Tools for Conservation
Across Georgia, private landowners play a vital role in conserving forests, wetlands, grasslands, and working lands that support wildlife and strengthen climate resilience.
Georgia Conservancy’s work through the Georgia Private Lands Network (PLN) aims to connect landowners with the right tools and partners. Convened by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division, the PLN is a coalition of land stewardship and conservation professionals working to improve statewide access to private land management resources.
The 2026 Annual Meeting on February 4 in Perry attracted more than 40 attendees, showing growing support. Discussions focused on creating a consolidated online repository for landowners to access services such as prescribed fire information, invasive species removal, cost-share programs, and funding opportunities.
Georgia Conservancy has played a key role in establishing the PLN as a formal, lasting resource. In partnership with the Georgia Wildlife Federation and the Georgia Forestry Association, we are leading the development of online tools and participating in a leadership group shaping the PLN’s long-term structure.
Complementing statewide coordination, Georgia Conservancy hosts hands-on outreach programs. Burning for Birds Field Days demonstrate how prescribed fire restores habitat critical to native bird species, while Landowner Resources Luncheons connect landowners with forestry experts and conservation funding programs. These efforts empower Georgians to steward their land, strengthening rural economies and the natural systems that sustain communities from the mountains to the marshes.
