What to Expect
Join the Georgia Conservancy on June 14 for a special guided hike at the Lula Lake Land Trust’s Core Preserve, a protected landscape on Lookout Mountain known for its waterfalls, scenic overlooks, and conservation significance. Unlike typical Open Gate Days, when the preserve is open to the public, this experience includes a private, guided hike led by Lula Lake Land Trust staff, offering participants a more in-depth, exclusive opportunity to explore the property.
During the hike, participants will learn about the history of the Core Preserve, the land trust’s conservation efforts across more than 12,000 acres on Lookout Mountain, and the importance of protecting intact mountain watersheds. Guides will also highlight native plant communities, regional ecology, and the role conservation organizations play in preserving access to places like this.
The hike will visit several of the preserve’s most notable features, including Lula Lake, the 110-foot Lula Falls, and scenic bluff overlooks that provide sweeping views across the surrounding valley. Expect a relaxed pace with frequent stops for interpretation, photos, and time to take in one of the most beautiful protected landscapes in northwest Georgia
The Schedule
Sunday Morning
Meeting point: 5000 Lula Lake Road, Lookout Mountain, GA 30750
On Sunday, June 14, at 10 AM, we will meet at the Lula Lake Land Trust entrance, where participants will check in before beginning a guided hike led by trained preserve staff. The route will explore several areas of the property, including Lula Lake, Lula Falls, and the bluff overlook, before returning to the starting point.

The Details
Arrival Time
Please arrive 10–15 minutes early (9:45ish) to allow time for parking and check-in. The preserve operates on a controlled-access basis, so late arrivals may not be able to join the group once the hike begins.
What Should I Pack?
Sturdy waterproof hiking boots, trekking poles (if you have them), 2 liters of water, snacks/lunch, extra socks, sun protection, and a daypack.
How Long Is The Hike?
Approximately 4-6 miles, depending on the route selected by the preserve guides.
Accessibility and Terrain:
Natural dirt trails with moderate elevation changes and occasional rocky or uneven surfaces. Some sections may be steep near the bluff and waterfall areas.
