Lower Flint River Paddle
Newton, GA

On May 10-12, join the Georgia Conservancy for our annual Lower Flint River Paddle at Rocky Bend Retreat.

Located south of Albany in Newton, the Rocky Bend Retreat will be our headquarters for a fantastic weekend exploring a beautiful section of the Flint River.

“Nestled on the shores of the gently rolling Flint River in a quiet corner of southwest Georgia, Rocky Bend Flint River Retreat is the perfect place to leave the hustle-bustle of everyday behind. Whether you are looking for a base camp to enjoy the best hunting and fishing our region offers or you are visiting relatives in the area, our family-owned and operated retreat is waiting just for you."

  • Friday: Join us for a relaxing evening at Rocky Bend Retreat. We'll be welcoming paddlers, setting up camp, enjoying dinner and drinks, and sharing stories around the campfire.

  • Saturday: After breakfast, we will depart for the Radium Springs boat landing just south of Albany and paddle a beautiful 8-mile section of the Flint River. From here we will paddle past the once-famous resort of Radium Springs and see its crystal clear waters mix with the waters of the Flint. Depending on water levels, along the way we will see blue hole springs and limestone outcroppings. We will take out at the Mitchell County Landing before returning to Rocky Bend Retreat for the evening.

  • Sunday: On Sunday, our friends at Rocky Bend Retreat will provide our paddlers and our boats with a nice pontoon boat lift upriver. From there we we will have a two-hour float south back to Rocky Bend, experiencing a section of river that is often not accessible to short paddle trips due to the distance between boat landings.

In-kind donors and local food producers we will be enjoying during our weekend: ASW Distillery (Atlanta), and Cafe Campesino Coffee (Americus).

Join us on a Georgia Conservancy Stewardship Trip to learn more about important location-specific conservation issues, as well as statewide advocacy opportunities. Our goal is simple: Create a connection between some of Georgia’s most precious places and the people needed to protect them.
