National Public Lands Day
Service Project

Sweetwater Creek State Park

In celebration of National Public Lands Day and Your State Parks Day, the Georgia Conservancy is hosting a service project at Sweetwater Creek State Park in Douglas County.

Located just 15 miles west of Downtown Atlanta, Sweetwater Creek State Park is a beautiful 2,500-acre park within the Chattahoochee River watershed that features a recreational lake, cascading streams, river shoals, and the historical ruins of the New Manchester Mill, which was burned during the Civil War. Sweetwater Creek is the also birthplace of the Georgia Conservancy in 1967 and was one of the first places our nascent organization helped to protect.

The service project will focus on rebuilding the kayak stand located at the lake, establishing a sensory nature trail near the Park’s bait shop, and removing invasive plant species from various locations.

  • When: September 28, 2024 // 10 AM – 2 PM

  • Where: Sweetwater Creek State Park // Meet at the Lake/Bait Shop Parking Lot (look for GC signs) // 1750 Mt Vernon Rd., Lithia Springs, GA 30122

  • Parking: Please park at the Sweetwater Creek Bait Shop Parking Lot.

  • What to bring: Please bring a reusable water bottle, snacks, closed-toe shoes, pants, a long-sleeve shirt, and a sense of adventure.
