Protecting Georgia’s
North Atlantic Right Whales

Help Build a Life-Saving AIS Beacon Network

A Future Without North Atlantic Right Whales?
Not on Our Watch.

With fewer than 370 North Atlantic Right Whales left, including just 70 breeding females, every whale counts. These gentle giants have been traveling to Georgia’s coast—their only known calving ground—for generations, but today, they face an existential threat.

Ship strikes are one of the leading causes of Right Whale deaths. These whales swim slowly near the surface, making them nearly invisible to approaching vessels. A single collision can be fatal, and with so few Right Whales left, every loss pushes the species closer to extinction.

But we have a solution—and you can help make it happen.

The Solution: Real-Time AIS Beacons to Prevent Ship Strikes

The Georgia Conservancy is leading a groundbreaking effort to install seven AIS (Automatic Identification System) beacons along the Georgia coast. These state-of-the-art alert stations will provide real-time warnings to ships and boats whenever Right Whales are detected in the area, helping captains slow down and prevent deadly collisions.

This technology has already proven effective in New England, but Georgia’s waters remain unprotected. With your support, we can change that.

WHat your gift will do

We need to raise $315,000 to install seven AIS beacons in strategic locations along Georgia’s coastline. Each beacon costs $45,000 and will serve as a critical lifeline for Right Whales during their most vulnerable migration period.

Your donation will:
Fund the installation and operation of AIS beacons, ensuring ships receive real-time whale alerts.

Help create Georgia’s first Right Whale warning system, reducing ship strikes.

Provide safer waters for mother whales and their calves, increasing the species’ chance of survival.

Every dollar gets us closer to making Georgia’s coastline a safer place for Right Whales.
